If you want Word to start Maximized, you can stipulate this in the
properties of the shortcut used to start Word.
1. Right-click the shortcut and choose Properties.
2. On the Shortcut tab, select Maximized in the Run box.
If you are using the default desktop shortcut installed with Office, you may
not be able to edit its properties (the shortcut tab will be grayed out). In
that case, use Windows search to find Winword.exe (you'll probably have to
tell Windows to include hidden and system files in the search). When you
have found it, right-click and choose Create Shortcut. Drag the shortcut to
your desktop, QuickLaunch toolbar, or Programs menu, then use steps 1 and 2
above.
