how to change language version in window xp professional

Hello,

I just got a second hand computer with window xp professional installed
in but it's all in japanese and I would like to change it to english.

I have a japanese friend who could help in translating but I need to
know the procedure to follow.

Sorry, but you can't do what you want to do. The only procedure to follow is
to buy and install am English version.

Besides, if I bought a used computer, the first thing I would do with it
would be to reinstall the operating system cleanly. You have no idea how the
computer has been maintained, what has been installed incorrectly, what is
missing, what viruses and spyware there may be, etc. I wouldn't want to live
with somebody else's mistakes and problems, possibility of kiddie porn,
etc., and I wouldn't recommend that anyone else do either.
 
You can change IE and OE to English but the OS, if it is Windows J, will
still be in Japanese -- Help, et al.

I've operated such a machine successfully for seven years -- but unless you
want to deal with some severe headaches you DO want English XP.
