How to change from Very small pre-login displays?

(Our password log-in screen and inside XP are all properly
sized, so please do not suggest adjusting the Display
Properties resolution slidebar. )

Upon powering up our notebook, a couple of black screens
are presented sequentially, prior to the log-in screen.
Each displays text messages, centered on the
screen but shrunk.

The first provides a few maintenance work arounds, accessed
by hitting: ESC, F2 or F10 (ie., for accessing phoenixbios,
etc).

The second is Microsoft's Windows flag logo and a couple
of their other text related trademarks. This also is
about half the screen size.

Hitting F8 also presents a very small version of the Safe
start menu list - which must also be read using the good
old magnifying glass. While also centered, it only fills
about 1/9th of the screen.

None extends to fill the screen as they do on my PC.

So how does one enlarge these -- in order to read them?

I've seen this happen on certain IBM notebook. The picture is being sent at
a low resolution because the video driver is not loaded yet. So the laptop
displays the image at its native size (probably 320x200 or 640x480). Anyway,
I found in the BIOS of this particular notebook a setting to change the
"expand boot window to fill screen" or something like that.

Beyond that, because it happens before windows loads, its really nothing to
do with windows. So you might have better luck via support or some public
forums for your specific laptop.
