How to capture still frames in mmc

I know this can be done because I've been able to do this in the past.
I'm talking about the little camera icon on the mmc control panel when
you view recorded material (tv shows). I've got a AIW 9600 PRO that
has served me well for years, I don't have any other problems with it,
just can't can't hit the button (it's grayed out) on playbacks. Thing
is, I can do it 'live' which bothers the hell out of me. What's the
difference between live and recorded? The last time this worked was
with mmc 9.02 and cat 5.1, which is what I'm running now. I ran this
setup for months and was able to do the captures. I foolishly upgraded
to cat 5.9 for H/L2 performance upgrades. That's when the capture
stopped working. The official ATI support hasn't been any help, so I'm
coming to the experts.

Any help would be appreciated. It's not life and death, but I'd just
like to get some screen caps so I don't have to keep the entire show,
takes up too much space.

You could alternatively use the program Hypersnap, which can capture stills
from overlays, 3D games, etc. Kinda sucks that you have to use 3rd-party
software to do something so simple. It's one reason I stay away from AIW
cards...

Did you uninstall MMC before installing the Cats then reinstall it after?
 
I have not used the latest versions of MMC and Catalyst drivers but
with earlier versions of Catalyst (like 3.0) and MMC (like 7.5 or
8..8), I find a still camera icon under the TV box clicking on which I
have captured stills from videos and used them for making the covers
for VCDs of music or family events.

Yes, I used ATI's remove all software, rebooted, installed the CAT
drivers & WDM, rebooted, installed mmc & the dao, rebooted. Set up
guideplus again, set up mmc again. Re-arranged all my desktop icons
back the way I want them. Lather, rinse repeat.

I was able to use the capture with 9.02 & 5.1, until I foolishly
updated. I don't know if I had my tounge in the wrong side of my mouth
or it was the wrong phase of the moon,but I can't get it to work again.

Can't say it's your problem but I install WDM drivers, the Display Drivers,
Control Panel then items from the MMC page top to bottom. Basically you want
the other things installed so MMC will be aware of them when it's installed.
Install order is important, but if you aren't showing any problems with the
WDM drivers in Device Manager doing a Repair Install(or uninstall/reinstall)
of MMC may be enough. I have a cable box so don't use Guide Plus.

Found my problem,,,,doh. When I install mmc, I always uncheck the
extraneous stuff like vcd viewer, play audio cd's etc. I did another
re-install today and saw that I unchecked "still frame gallery". That
rang a bell, I left it checked and low and behind, I got the little
camera back in the library playback.

New question, when I went to download the latest and greatest cat 5.9 &
mmc 9.08, I saw that the dao/mdac had titan tv drivers (and it's not
called dao/mdac in the file name anymore). Has ati shifted to titan
and away from gemstar?
