Would like to write direct to cd-rw ie:' save as' in Excell or Word. Also when the CD-Writer in XP copies files they are converted to 'read only' thus preventing an over wright and forcing a new track to be created on the CD-RW. Can anyone help with this situation
TIA

1. Name and save your Excel or Word file, then record the file to a CD.
2. All files recorded to a CD will be "read only". If you wish to make
changes to that file, copy it back to your hard drive, open it, make the
desired changes and record it back to the CD.

A. Open XP's "Help and Support" program.
B. In the Search box type: CD RECORDING , and hit enter.
C. Click on the topic: "Copy files and folders to a CD".

Saving directly to CD requires packet writing, a function not supported
natively by Windows XP. For this, you need third party software such as the
Direct CD or Drag To Disk component of Easy CD Creator, www.roxio.com or the
InCD component of Nero, www.nero.com. Please see websites for versions
compatible with XP and drive compatibility.

As to read only, that is standard operating procedure when copying files to
CD. You can change the files but first you must copy them back to your hard
drive, open them there and make your changes, then copy them back to CD.

That's nice, but it says:
"Open My Computer.
Click the files or folders you want to copy to the CD. To select more
than one file, hold down the CTRL key while you click the files you want.
Then, under File and Folder Tasks, click Copy this file, Copy this folder,
or Copy the selected items. "
however, there is NO "File and Folder Tasks" menu list.

Laurie,

"File and Folder Tasks" is in the "Common Tasks" pane on the left-hand side of the Windows Explorer window.

Enable this via...
Tools-menu
Folder Options
[Y] "Show Common Tasks in Folders"

However, this does not work, either.

Laurie,

Are you saying that you do not get the "Common Tasks" pane?

Laurie,

Are you saying that you do not get the "Common Tasks" pane?
Not by following those instructions, no. In addition, one must also
kill the Folder view.

I have InCD, and I cannot get it to work with XP. I've followed all the tech info I can find. If you format the disk with InCD to use it as a regular drive, XP's CD writer screws up the formatting on the disk. Nero and XP fight over who is controlling the write process. Is there a way to completely disable the Roxio plugin? I would rather use Nero/InCD because I can do so much more with it, such as running unmannerd backups using batch files.

Jim;

I have InCD, it works fine for me.

Try this:
My Computer | Right click CD Drive | Properties |
Recording tab | UNCheck Enable CD recording on this drive |
Apply | OK
