Is there a way to block all incomming html e-mails? I
don't remember received an html e-mail that wasn't spam.
Remember that a lot of what looks like text only e-mails is probably still
in HTML format. That is the default format for lots of e-mail clients.
Just because all of the *visible* content is text doesn't mean it is a
text-only e-mail.
You don't mention which version of Outlook you are using. I know there is a
registry key that can be used to configure Outlook 2002 to always read all
e-mails in text format (so HTML e-mails will look funny with all their tags
and codes). I don't bother remember what is the registry key because an
option to modify it is inclued in Attachment Options, a utility that lets
you decide what filetypes are treated as Level1 hazardous attachments or
not. I got it at
www.slipstick.com. I'm sure a search at
support.microsoft.com would reveal a KB article on the registry key, or
there might be info over at the slipstick web site. I've heard that OL2003
now includes an option to read all e-mails in text-only format. I know OE6
has a read option to force text-only format for messages; I have it enabled
to prevent getting bothered with HTML-formatted posts in newsgroups (since
that's all I use OE for).
Rather than destroy the formatting of HTML-formatted e-mails, why not use an
anti-spam product that: (1) Identifies the spam (so you can use a rule to
move or delete it); and, (2) Modifies HTML-formatted e-mails to remove the
nasties from them, like web bugs or beacons (used to track when you open an
infected message) and other spam tricks, like scripts (although you really
should have Outlook [Express] configured to use the Restricted Sites
security zone which is configured at its default high security level).
SpamPal is free. It has an HTML-Modify plug-in that you might find quite
handy.
