How to beat the network firewall

Hello group
I am using IE6 browser.

I just found out that one favorite file source (rapidshare.com) was
banned from my network. I tried using the proxy servers which was
asuccessful turnaround with firewall protection and my colleagues can
access the facebook, friendster,etc, which they can't by direct
connection the browser.
However whenever I tried rapidshare (yes the webpage can come out
but) I can't download the selected file as either the page just
refreshes or nust remain static.
Is there an effective turnaround for this?

Hi Roy,

You may be facing the sack if you circumvent your network firewall settings
on your work computer.

Consult with your network administrators if you require a particular piece
of software downloaded and installed on your work computer.

You have to remember that your work computer is not a PC (personal
computer). Your company probably spends a fortune trying to keep its network
free of malware and virus.

Facing the sack?
LOL!
Its more of a game of wits, and I don't fear losing my job either!
And I don't have utterly malicious intent to the firm I work for .I
just want to teach a little bit of lesson some of these arrogant IT
bastards that are difficult to talk to whenever we need some help with
our computers. They have humiliated me and my colleages in the past.
They have challenged us that we can't break their firewall and
administrative restriction, which they were wrong in some part as were
able to surf websites that they put some sort of "lock".
Now if we can succeed downloading files from some restricted
websites, then that is sweet victory for us...
Anybody here that can symphatize with our cause.?
Any useful Ideas,,,hmmm?

I share your frustrations. I am a contractor and each gig I go to I have to
fight with the network guys to get a build I can work on. It can take me up
to a month to be productive, which is ok as I am being paid, but I would
rather hit the ground running rather than waiting around for Administrative
changes.
The most productive way for me to work is to bring my laptop with me and not
to rely upon their network. This is not possible all of the time as it is
impossible to replicate their network environment on my laptop.

One thing I have done at my latest gig is to convince the network staff to
create a build for developers (not me in particular, as I will move on when
the gig is done), that all contract staff can use. Some companies are
installing Public Access machines to allow their staff to do on-line banking
and the like from their workplace.

Rather than antagonism, you should be looking for co-operation with your
network staff. Breaking the corporate firewall is difficult, if not
impossible, and you can bet that if they are doing their work properly they
will be monitoring breaches, so they are bound to catch you out.

Having a sandboxed PC for public access and downloads is a lot cheaper than
giving every-one un-bridled access to the web.

Thanks for that info. I am occasionally using a laptop but just don't
cut the mustard ..... the antagonism rans deep ... there is an axe to
grind...Even in extreme cases if we have to hack the system and some
heads may roll. we are now determined to teach these people a
lesson.....
If anybody familiar through accessing through the network tunnel
system via security shell (SSH )by using some tools such as the
portaputty or the like...can these be used for our purpose..?
 
With enough grunt pigs can fly.
My understanding is that there is no such thing as a secure network, but it
is not in my interest to learn how to break security. I am sure that a web
search for 'hacking' will give you some leads.
