For some strange reason all kind of applications (e.g. Outlook Express
newsreader, Musikmatch Jukebox, misc. others and occasionally even
Internet Explorer) seems to "think" that I am currently offline.
E.g. when I start OE it regularly first pops up a dialog giving me the
options to "Work offline" or "Try again". When I press "try again" it
works fine, I can browse NGs and download new appends, etc.
But, when I wrote and now want to send an append it suddenly seems
to think, that I am offline again and - instead of sending it right
away -
it tells me, that it will store it in the outbox and will deliver it
once I'm
online again.
Again , I have to force it and to select "Tools" => "Send and
Receive" => "Send All" so that the message gets delivered now!
What setting could cause all kind of apps to have problems opening
a connection, but when they try again, it works all fine?
I tried to fiddle with the "Automatically detect settings" options in
Internet Options, but no matter whether that's on of off, this strange
"offline" phenomenon remains.
The same holds for all locations, i.e. I have this phenomenon
regardless of whether I am connected to our corporations high
speed network, my home cable modem or even via a modem:
All kinds of apps. claim "You are not currently connected...".
Ah, and, yes, I do have a firewall installed, but, firstly, things
used
to work with that firewall in place before and, secondly, I also
tried and disabled it, but this strange "offline"-problems did not
go away.
This is on Windows 2000/SP4.
