Hello MVP,

I often see a statement here from MVP`s >this is not a windows xp file< How
can you be so certain ?? Do you have a complete list of window files ? Do
you just search for it ?
If so,do you use a more reliable search engine, then the one from windows
xp ??
This is the first question to be answered, when confronted with an unknown
file and is very important to me.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Phil

Nope - we do the same as anyone else - if we're not sure, we plug the file
name into Google and see what it spits back.

Hi Phil,

There are various methods to ascertain whether or not it is a valid Windows
File. Most MVP's will check the MSKB if the file name is unfamiliar, you can
too:

Microsoft Knowledge Base

A google search, however, is often the fastest surce for determining where a
file comes from. I also keep a copy of the I386 folder on my hard drive for
quick scans as well, mostly to rule out whether the file is a Windows one or
not.
