Hi,

When MS sends an automatic update for WindowsXP, sometimes the process
pauses and asks me to insert the WindowsXP disk - but I don't have a disk -
my pc came with Windoews XP on it.

So I can't complete the installation. What do I do?

Hi

I followed the instructions at http://rickrogers.org/fixes.htm#I386 and
found that I only needed to alter the sourcepath entry under these keys in
the system registry
for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion because
it was already set correctly for
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup.

Now, after turning the pc off and then on, when I am "auto" updating
windowsXP, it still asks for the CD, but I use browse to send it to

C:\windoes\I386

but it then demands to find the file PRORET.MSI which is not on my pc.

Any suggestions?

Hi Jeffrey,

<copy from private reply>

Not sure why it would be asking for it, but proret.msi is an MSOffice file,
not a WinXP file. It may need that CD or the MSOCache location.
