Is there a way to have IE6 automatically open to a web site at the same time
every day? I am not referring to making that site my home page, but rather
to have IE6 (which is open 24/7) to automatically jump to a certain site at
a scheduled time each day.

Hi Loren,

No problem.

Create a scheduled task (Win 2000 and higher - Start>Program
Files>Accessories>System Tools>Scheduled Tasks)

You will be prompted to choose the program to run - Choose Internet Explorer
as your program to run. Choose the times to run your task and save the task
file.

Reopen the Task file (Right click and select Properties from the drop-down
menu) and add the address of the web page you want to open after the command
to open IE.

eg. c:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IExplore.exe http://www.mywebsite.com

and then save the changes.

You can test by selecting the task and choosing Run from the drop-down menu
(You may have to add Usernames and Passwords to run it on some Windows OS's)

Regards.

Hi Rob,
Thank's for your quick reply. I see now what I need to do but am unable to
get past a password problem. First I never set a password on my Dell 8300
WinXP home as I am the only person to use this pc. For 3 yrs I have never
been denied access to anything on my pc. However, after setting up the
schedule task, I was prompted for a password. When I tried to proceed without
a pw it wouldn't let me.
When I tried to create one, i had the same problem: "0x80070005:access is
denied. You do not have permission to peerform the requested action"

How do I get past this?

Hi loren :-)

Take a look at the following and see if it helps:

"0x80070005: Access is denied" error message when you create a scheduled
task in Windows XP Service Pack 2
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/884573

Hope this helps.

Thank you Jan,
The link you gave me certainly explains the problem. Unfortunately I don't
have the file Gpedit.msc on my XP home version, and it appears that MS is
saying that the fix is not so easy, and shouldn't be attempted unless it's
'very important to me'. I think I'll pass on this one.

There was a way (one upon a time) to automatically open web pages using MS
Outlook. I might go to the Outlook support group to see if that's possible
with MS Outlook 2003.

Thanks for your help. It was 'spot on'...even thought I can't do it.

Double click the task in Schedule tasks and if you have the option "Run only
if logged on" , check it. If not try what Jan said.

Ayush,
