hello everybody,

can anyone tell me how I can allow the normal users to configure the energy
options on their windows 2000 pro PCs ?
Actually I have to put them into power user´s or administrator´s group to
give them the desired access.

Perhaps also a policy setting would help - BUT the all the PCs only belong
to a windows NT 4.0 Domain. There´s no Active Directory -> No AD policies :(

Any help is appreciated !

Thorsten

Hi Thorsten,

On my Win2000 standalone computer, my work-around is to grant "Users" Full Control
access to the following registry key, like this:

- Run regedt32.exe
- Navigate to the registry key given below
- On the Security menu, click Permissions
- Grant "Users" Full Control

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Controls Folder\PowerCfg

For information on how "To assign permissions to a registry key", search quote in
Registry Editor Help (Regedt32.chm).

Before you edit the registry I recommend that you understand how to backup, edit and
restore the registry. For more information, see:
