I've watched the tutorial several times and it looks like you push and hold
the mag button then move the mouse in one of four directions to adjust the
window size but nothing happens when I do that. The mouse graphics with the
red arrows do show. I also can't figure out what the longer button behind the
mag button is for. Nothing happens when I click or press it in or out of mag
mode.

Turn your mag window on, then click and hold the mag button and move the
mouse to resize the window. Release the mag button. Press and hold the mag
button again and by moving the scroll wheel, you can zoom in and out. If
this doesn't work, check your button settings in Control Panel/ Mouse. The
default is the front small thumb button.

P.S. This is a WinXP newsgroup ;-)
At the end of the tutorial, it states:
Note

In Windows Vista, the screen might flicker when you turn the Magnifier on
and off. In some graphics programs, such as Photo Gallery, images may not
display in the Magnifier window.

Thanks Tom. Perhaps you have an answer for this. I recently had to install a
new HD and though my mouse's basic functions work, the magnification,
horizontal scrolling, and windows flip do not. The mouse settings seem to be
correct. Any idea what happened and how I can get these features back? Thanks!

First thing I would try is hook up a standard mouse, uninstall the
Intellipoint software, reboot, install the Intellipoint software, then plug
the 6000 back in. Check on line for the latest version (v6.31.230 is what I
have), download it, and use it. I have the same mouse, and that's what I had
to do. It's a nice mouse, but the software can be a PITA once in a while.

Thanks Tom! That did the trick.

I have yet another issue that perhaps you might know about as well. I use
rechargeable batteries in my mouse and for some strange reason, the batteries
need to be recharged every few days. I thought they were supposed to be good
for a year or so with the new laser mise.

Thinking it might be bad batteries, I bought new name brand and it is the
same situation. Any ideas?

From personal experience with cameras and rechargeable batteries, they're
not all that great when in a continuous use situation. Even though your PC
is turned off, the mouse itself still has a small drain on the batteries. I
use Duracell alkaline in mine and have gotten more than a year's use out of
them. Save your money and get a couple of alkalines- they're a lot cheaper
than rechargeables and give better results in longevity.
