how to add foreign dictionary

I have word 2003, i have a CD with thousands of words that are middle eastern
mix also this CD is saved in my documents.
can i use either one? and then how do i add it to my word dic.? i am editing
books which mainly use these persian, arabic, sanskrit, Indian words.

I'm not 100% clear about what you're asking. (The phrase "also this CD is saved
in my documents" is particularly confusing.)

Basically, though, you can create a custom dictionary for any language you have
active in the Office Language Tools. Go over Tools/Customize/Spelling and
Grammar/Custom Dictionaries. Click NEW to define a new dictionary and type in a
file name. Now click MODIFY so that you can specify the language. Notice also
that you can enter single words through this interface.

*.dic files are plain text files, so you can open them in Notepad and edit them
(add/delete words). You should also be able to copy/paste them from the CD file.

what i meant by a CD is that i saved the thousands of words from my special
CD into my documents files, so i had wondered if it was better to add them to
Word from my documents, or from the CD directly, that's all.
They are special words that arent in any microsoft office lang. tools as
they are spiritual words.

Besides getting into the right dialog, you need to make sure the words
are in a file that Word can use as a custom dictionary.

To repeat what Cindy said, a custom dictionary is a plain text file,
not a Word-format file. This implies that if the Middle Eastern words
are in a language that requires a special font (Arabic, Hebrew, etc.),
there's no way to do that in a custom dictionary.

Assuming the words can be represented in a Western font (Times New
Roman, for example), if the file of words is in Word format (*.doc)
you need to use File > Save As and set the file type to Plain Text
(*.txt). Then rename the file with a .dic extension. You should be
able to open the file in Notepad and see one word per line.

Then use Tools > Options > Spelling & Grammar > Custom Dictionaries >
Add to select the file for use.

I don't think that's true anymore, if you have the newest Windows. From
some things Doug Potter [MSFT] has said, "modern" custom dics do support
Unicode.

This new web interface is not good for people with special problems.
This question would really belong in word.spelling.grammar, where Doug
would see it...
