how to add desktop item to all domain machines?

is there a simple way to add a shortcut to the desktops of all existing
domain members?
i know i can create a default domain profile, but that would only work with
NEW members, not existing ones.

You could try creating a startup script in Group Policy that copies the
shortcut from a network share to the desktop folder of the all users profile
on the domain member machines you want to implement it on. --- Steve

and that script might possibly look something like

xcopy \\server\scripts\shortcut.lnk %userprofile%\desktop\

Thats not tested
