How to add an oval picture?

How to add an oval/ circular picture/image into a powerpoint presentation
without having those pointed edges of a rectangle to appear against the
background?

Try this : Draw the oval. Now in the draw > fill colors select Fill effects
Choose the picture tab > select picture and OK out
