I have two windows XP machines networked. I want to put
my 2000 machine on the network.

I created a network setup disk, but that doesn't support
setting up 2000.

Can you give me any leads or links for this?

thanks

Steve

Make sure all computers are in the same workgroup and that all useraccounts
exist on all computers. Got File- and printersharing loaded?

I didn't understand what you wrote. I have more details
here:

I am having trouble adding my win 2000 laptop to an XP
network of two laptops.:
1. All PCs are connected via a router and via a cable
modem to the internet.
2. All PCs are able to access the internet.
3. The win XP net setup disk doesn't apply to win2k
4. All computers show MSHOME as their workgroup.
5. Using the win2k network connection wizard creates some
confusion for me.
It gives two options:
o part of a business network connected to other PCs
or
o home use and not connected to other PCs.

when I select home use, it doesn't show anything else on
the network.

Also, I don't understand which to select:
o computer uses a network with a domain
or
o computer uses a network without a domain

when I select Business, without a domain, the other
computers are visible, but it says:

\\<PCNAme is not accessible. The network path was not
found.

Although I'm PC literate, this stuff is beyond my
knowledge.
What do I do now?
How do I know if I am on a domain or not?

thanks

Steve

You don't have a domain (unless you have a W2000-server in your network). So
again, rightclick My computer, Properties, tab Network Identification, click
workgroup, fill in your workgroupname. OK and reboot.

Marina
thanks for this.
I did this, still getting same message.
What other options do I have?

Steve

Do you have shares on the laptop to which you are trying to connect? And
have you given your login account permissions on those shares??? The
"network path not found" error is very common when a computer is accessible
on the network but you don't have permission to anything on it.
If the tcp/ip settings were wrong, you probably wouldn't even see the other
laptops; however, it wouldn't hurt to make sure they are all on the same
subnet.
