How secure 1025-1030 ports

I found that SharePoint Portal Server opens port 1025 with
Domain COntroller. I was reading a thread @
http://seclists.org/lists/fulldisclosure/2003/Aug/0409.html

I am wondering how secured is the port if the web server
(facing internet) does authentication with Domain
Controller.

Any comment is very much appreciated.
