Hi,

have installed USB WLAN adapter.

Doesn't work well using their utility!

They ( Hercules ) suggest using again the built inwindows utility, but that
Windows utility allways states I should use the adapter's utility !

How work it out ?

I cannot simply uninstall that utility, caiuse the drivers are in the
setup.exe, and not as .inf or else on the CD

Any help ?

Adapter is Hercules HWNUm-300 Ministick

TIA !

I see that id o not have a windows zero config service nor any wzcsvc on my
PC. Any idea ? Seems these should exist.

What service pack of XP do you have installed?

Where are you looking when you say that there is no windows zero config
service nor any wzcsvc? You should be looking under "Wireless Zero
Configuration" in

Start > Run > services.msc [click OK]

See MS-MVP Jack's http://www.ezlan.net/wzc.html (with screenshots)

If you think you don't have WZC, then what is always stating that you
should use the adapter's utility"?

Well:

- in services.msc no Windows Zero ... listed
- searching in c:\windows no wzc*.* found
- i do have in systray an icon for network wireless, that displays the a
windows component to build a new network or choose and display Wireless
networks that are available. But in the window where the WiFi should be
displayed I see a message stating that the deviec has been configured with a
propretary utility, that windows cannot configure itr, and that I should use
that utility instead ( Hercules one).
I have found where that utility starts at boot up, and disabled it's
starting on booting. Now I have a connection. But I still vannot use Windows
utility, and so cannot display "available" WLANs to check if I ahve problems.

Run the Hercules utility and look for a setting that tells it to let
Windows configure the wireless network.

Run "services.msc" and make sure that the Wireless Zero Configuration
service is started and is set to start automatically.

Done with the Hercules utility. BUT services.msc does not list the Windows
Zero thing nowhere ! I have a french version, but have looked at all services
for something that could be related to that service: no hit !
How find and activate it ?

New info: have found the service name. Was in french "configuration de
service .... 802.11"
BUT cannot start it: "Error 1068: service or dependency group cannot be
started" ( translated freely from french)

Cause ? How correct it ?

TIA

Hi
After you done with the Hercules check that you still have a valid entry of
the Wireless Card in the Device Management.
Done with the utility can be done with the drivers, if such is the case look
for the manufacturer of the Wireless Chipset and log to their support site.
Many times the OEM would post clean drivers without any utility. Use these
drivers instead of the vendors "Junk".
If the Card is installed correctly with the drivers and no utility log to
the page suggested by Lem.

What is the malware status of your computer and - most important - how
do you know?

WZC will not start unless RPC (Remote Procedure Call) service is
started. On the other hand *lots* of other Windows XP functions will not
work properly if the RPC service is not running. Still, take a look in
services.msc for RPC (I have no idea how this would be translated into
French).

The other thing that WZC needs is the NDIS Usermode I/O Protocol.
Take a look at the following threads.
