How often do definitions update?

Newbie to MSAS. Previously used Spy-Bot S&D. On
install, updated to definition v.5733. I then did the
procedure recommended by Robin Walker to correct
gcUnCompress.dll from incorrect 130,272 bytes to correct
95,448 bytes. On updating, it still says v. 5733 but I
know it will now update correctly....according to
Walker's post!
My question is approximately how often does the
definition version number change on update so we know
this update thing is really working?

Depends on if new spyware has been discovered and if some
false positives are occurring. Ususally once a week or
so, though.

Some companies state they update their definitons daily.
The only real reason to do this is if the new definitions
are not working properly. Most AV companies update
their's about once a week. Ad-Aware gets updated about
every one to two weeks, give or take.

Thanks for the prompt response. So if I understand you,
I should expect an AS definition v. update every few
weeks or so?

Since MSAS is Beta software and it does not have any
conflicts from running alongside Ad-Aware or SpyBot, you
should keep a current (non-beta) spyware program available.

Approximately once a week has been the rule--look for new definitions in the
next two days. Usually they are announced in these groups by folks who see
them early.

You are on the current definition set, and you have the right
gcUnCompress.dll in place, so I believe you are fine.

OK, we're in business! I did a manual update and I did
get the new definitions v.5735 so everything very OK! My
thanks to all who responded and Robin Walker for his
research and posting of the fix. Thank you.
