How much space does AD take up?

Dr Zoidberg.

Can anyone give me a rough idea of how much disk space would be used up if
I were to promote a member server to a domain controller?

Its a fairly small domain with about 50 users and a similar number of hosts.
Only a couple of group policies are in use at the mo.

The reason I am asking is that there is plenty of space on the server , but
not a huge amount of spare capacity on the tape drive that is being used for
backup.
