Hi,

Well, just wondering about the stability, how many times have you tried to
install Vista (b2), has it always been a clean install?

I have been successful on both a HDD on my Desktop and 1 on my Laptop,
however,on my laptop, just aafter I log on and programs have started, the
processor seems to work non-stop for about 3-5min lol! anyone else come
accross this on a laptop. I am beginning to think I should stick with my
other HDD with XP on it on my notebook.

1 x64, 1 x86 on the same machine, an x86 on another machine..
So 3, all clean installs, all went flawlessly(except for initial problems
with a bad hard drive).....my XP install on this(x86/x64 machine last night
had issues with 2 files...)

Oh so now probs, cool.

Just another note, anyone notice that the Vista install seems MUCH quicker.
Also when Vista set-up formats the HDD it did it in like 1 sec, whereas XP
took a while etc..

LOL

Install #9 going on my test box now.

Ist time with 5384 I managed a clean install on a clean raw HDD, ever
since install fails clean so I have to put XP in first (minimal) then
do an upgrade.

The most catastrophic failure was an attempt to restore a PartImage
backup I thought I had made sucessfully. I had not and had to zero
wipe the disk just to access it with the XP CD.

Most of the time though its trying to uninstall something that did not
work causes the problems and I reckon a clean reload is better than
testing a machine full of half installed/uninstalled software, that
way I know any further problems are Vista not something I did last
week and forgot about.

Vista is not that unstable, its me thats unstable.

You haven't been anywhere until, during an install, your girlfriend says,
"Is there supposed to be smoke coming out of there? Is that normal?"

I hope you had a witty, nonchalent comeback for her 8-)

I had one where I caught the wife on a cleaning jag doing my LCD
monitor screens with solvent based windowlene type stuff, ruined both
of them. Good job I caught her when I did her next port of call was
the 37" LCD TV I just bought which at the time were ridiculously
expensive. Oh yeah and there was the vase of flowers she put on my
desk which fell off the back and shorted my PSU out resulting in a
major rebuild - serves her right - I wanted an upgrade anyway perfect
excuse.

She is banned from my office now, I like the dust and piles of junk
and if I want flowers I will get a girly screensaver. OTOH I would
like one of them AMD64FX chips,....hmmmmm.

I generally find it difficult to be witty and nonchallant while hosing down
a customer's 2-month old computer... Took me several minutes to return to
my witty, nonchallant self.

I have an uncle who is a major gadget guy, and his wife lets him replace
things as needed or wanted, but he is banned from increasing the actual
number of items. Works out well for both! And for me as well; I buy things
from him at a considerable discount.

Years ago my wife decided to clean up my clutter of 5.25" inch floppies so
she got some refrigerator magnets and pinned them to the side of the file
cabinet where I could find them easily.

You opened the wrong port in the FIREwall and let the magic smoke escape????

Is that like the databunnies I clean out of the case every so often? I
wondered where all those deleted files went when I emptied the Recycle Bin.
