We Live For The One We Die For The One

I think i heard you can activate it as many times as you like within
120 days.

But after that you have to phone microscum and get permission to
reactivate it again.

Just is i like to reformat my pc every now and again, forced or
unforced.

Thanks.

The truth is, you can activate Windows XP as often as you need to. If you
make no hardware changes, the Activation Wizard should never be initiated.
Formatting the HD will initiate the Activation Wizard, but if that is the
only change you make to your machine, you will be able to activate instantly
(or within a few seconds) over the Internet.

I have just completely upgraded my pc (motherboard, processor etc;) and had
no problem reactivating windows over the internet. I was not queried as to
whether the software belonged to me at all.

It is possible that the last time you activated XP was >= 120 days ago.
Each 120 days after activating XP, the Activation Server deletes your
activation record. The next time you activate after this, it will be as if
you had NEVER activated XP before, so an Internet activation will be a
foregone conclusion.

The Activation wizard operates in such a way as to obtain no personal
information. Microsoft doesnt care WHO owns the software. Only that the CD
key used to install the OS is a valid and has not been used on more than one
machine.
