How many Replication Links are Normal?

How do I know if the KCC has gone crazy? I've got servers
all over the world and many sites. Almost at many as
servers. My Bridehead server seems to be located in one of
the worst parts of the world for network traffic. I've got
1000's of links. What should be normal for a setup of 100
servers and 70 sites? Is there even an easy answer to that?
Thanks

So far as I know you got problems when you came over 2000 sites! Then you
have you planning your own replication topology.

If this is a Windows 2000 installation, you have far too many sites.
Without getting into the details, your system sounds like a "branch office
deployment". See the following:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/planning/activedirectory/branchoffice/default.asp
If your system *is* based on Windows 2000, then your KCCs *are* probably
going crazy.

If your system is Windows Server 2003, the KCC has been upgraded to be much
more scaleable. However, the new functionality might not be evident until
you move the forest into Forest Functional Level 2003.

Even having said that, you might want to "hand-massage" the site topology to
optimize replication. The first step might be to disable "Site Link
Bridging" and ensure you build a replication path that makes sense for your
business requirements.

Which case do you have?

Not quite sure how to answer. I've done adprep /forestprep
at the root and we have 1 of 3 servers there at 2003. We
have a mixture of 2000 and 2003 servers. I ran an
inventory last night to try and deternime on how 2000
servers are left.
What determines if we are at Forest Functional Level 2003?
Thanks,
