Hi,

there are aprox. 60 HP Networkprinters in our Network.
We tried to set up a Printserver with NT4, W2k and W2k3. All fo them
are not able to have more than 30 queues on one printserver.
We tried on different Hardware from P4 1,6Ghz 256MB RAM till P4 2,8
GHz 1GB Ram. The problem is alwas the same.

The HDD-Led on the printserver is permanently on. There is no
flashing. The clients are not able to put printjobs to the printqueues
and the Printserver don't work on the printqueues. Only a Serverreset
is able to fix the problem. The problem occurs randomly without any
regularity. Some of the printfiles are technical drawings with more
than 350MB of size.

Are there special Registry settings or other hints to have mor than 30
queues on one printserver?

The next step is to test the HP Printserver Appliance 4250. Are there
any experience with this Server?

Thanks Roland

No experience with HP Print Server Appliances ... but quite a bit
with Win2000 based print servers [including clustered print servers].

We had over 1000 print queues on a Compaq CL1850 cluster ...

Sounds to me like you're running out of memory [possible leaky drivers]
and/or spool space ... you don't mention how much disk space [or how it
is configured - RAID ?, etc] ...

Driver quality is critical ... and bad drivers leak memory ...

Good luck.

You may have a corrupt driver issue. This could cause
your cpu utilization to max and if your system is set to
create a dump file will make your system appear to
lockup. I have seen this issue myself but having large
systems it is only a small delay. Try removing any
drivers that you are not using and minimize the total
number of drivers the best you can. Fewer drivers means
a more stable server and less chance of hard to find
corrupt drivers.
