Hi, all. I'm doing a presentation about .NET to my department, and was
wondering if anyone knows a Web site with statistics on how many
..NET/ASP.NET developers there are worldwide and what the number will be like
down the road. Thanks.

i used to have a link, no longer do, but i remember i googled for it (5
million) thereabout. you can start by googling the visual studio beta and
move from there

DW,

That will be an immense difficult question to answer because there are more
categories, those who use Visual Studio Net or whatever tool like that, and
those who just use the notepad and all between that.

I think for that special about ASPNET which can be developed fine in a
scripting way using even a notepad. (It can for windowsforms as well however
not that simple)

Maybe it is the best to formalize first what you call a .Net developer.

I've done extensive searches on google, and the closest info I could find
was on itfacts.biz, which said there were 2.5 million developers using .net
in summer of 2004. I'm looking for the current number doing any .net
development (via vs.net or other tools; including asp.net -- and anything
that is .net programming) worldwide.

If you change your question to something that starts with
Whats the average ....
you will get many more answers :-)

I've given up on this question. I tried making the question as broad as
possible, as narrow, and still got no response. And to think, this was for a
presentation to convince my department to go with .NET. Oh well...

DW,

Your question sounds for me as: "exactly how many blue fishes are there
worldwide, because I have to convience my company that there are a lot and
we start fishing them".

Be sure that even companies as Microsoft would not give that when they had
those figurs, however they don't have it. Simple because of the fact that
they are not the only seller of the tools while, you can even be a
developper .Net without any serious tool.

When you want to convience your company I would start with a search on sites
from classic Win32 development tools vendors.

See what they write, two of them

Or look at the mono project to see that even Linux developers are accepting
it.

I hope this helps,

Hi, it looks like you got responses but you just didnt like what they said.
Think about this: How many VBA developers worldwide? How many C developers
worldwide?
If you cant understand the impossibility of answering this in a reliable
way, then maybe you arent the best person to be presenting an argument in
favor of .NET (or anything else for that matter). Come to think of it, I
would be very skeptical of anyone who tried to include "statistics" that they
got from a newsgroup thread!
