hi

how many IP Addresses can i add to one NIC in Windows 2000 SP4 and
Windows 2003 - without running in trouble? is there any limit? will 50
work? i'm not sure if i read about this in past - something around 26 is
max... but i cannot find the article and maybe i'm wrong...

There is no hard coded limit. You can add as many as your resources can
handle.

Hi Alex,

Its my pleasure to help you!

If your IIS doesnt need SSL protection then I suggest you
to go for Host Headers feature, which enables you to re-
use the the single IP to multiple websites.

Is this W2K Pro or Server? I'm sure we know what the 2K3 is. If it's 2000
professional you're going to be limited to 10 connections anyway. I always
thought this was a client NG but I guess it really doesn't specify.

Hi,

Host Headers is not a choice if you have SSL. Regarding
the Max IP limit for a NIC, you do a small test as I am
not sure whether the NT limitation is solved in Windows
2000 also I dint find something documented. Take a Test
PC, go on adding the private Ip's eg.192.168.1.2
(default) , 192.168.1.3, 192.168.1.4 and so on. If at some
point u were not able to add more IP's then that would be
the Limiation to add IP's through GUI. To add more open
the registry.( I ONCE AGAIN REMIND U THAT U HAVE TO DO
THIS ON TEST PC)

1.start > Run >Regedit

2.HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\<Ada
pter Name>\Parameters\Tcpip

3.Here u find many keys. At one place u will find the Ip
addresses already assigned. Double click on IPAddress &
add the IP Address on new line. double click on SubnetMask
and add the subnetmask on new line.

I think you need to restart the computer after doing this.

Just give a try.. R & D is always a good approach to
explore and learn things.

All the best!. Post your results here. If the IPAddress
assigning goes unlimited while testing, we will meet in
another world ;-)

this are servers! windows 2000 and windows 2003. this newsgroup is for
"networking" and nothing client specific - therefor a good choice :-).

the 10 connections you are talking about is a different thing... i only
talk about IP addresses.

hi
Host Headers is not a choice if you have SSL. Regarding
the Max IP limit for a NIC, you do a small test as I am
not sure whether the NT limitation is solved in Windows

and this is why i asked if somebody knows for sure if for e.g. 50
IPs/per machine will work *G*. i saw something... for e.g. if you go
with the small question mark over the add ip fields you get a popup
saying "...you can add unlimited ips..." - but i don't trust this *G*.
if you add more then 2 addresses you get a warning that there might be
different gateways and so on...

i will test... i have no problems with about 15 IPs... but as i know NT4
has a limit of around 26 or 32 - not sure... then you run in BIG
troubles... and i don't like to run in troubles regarding this :-).
