Hi,

Is there a limit on number of files a single directory can have in Windows
2000?
Does having a large number of files (10,000+) within a single directory
affect how OS performs
when requesting for files within this folder ?

NTFS - as many as your Hard Drive can hold.
Yes, you will notice increased processor activity / system
slow down / when you access the folder, because it has to
enumerate all the files and their associated info.
On a newer PC, this shouldn't be a problem.
On an older one, it will be a little slower.
Depends on the speed of the machine.
I guess it's just a matter of what you can tolerate.
If a few more seconds is too long, divide them up into
subfolders.
