Hi-

How many emails does outlook 2003 keep in the saved folder? I never delete
it yet it only goes back so far...

Thanks!

-Dan

Do you mean the Sent Items folder? Actually, for any folder, the answer is
the same -- your folder can hold a LOT of messages. :-) I don't know if we
have the actual figure for an Outlook 2003 folder, since the maximum .PST
size is now so much larger than it was in earlier versions, and the old
folder limitations may not apply now.

Do you have AutoArchiving enabled for the folder in question? Right-click
it, click Properties, then the AutoArchive tab.

If you're not AutoArchiving, all past sent messages should still be in Sent
Items.

hm... maybe it got turned on before for a period of time. Where do emails
go when they are AutoArchived? Thanks you for your help!

-Dan

Check the global AA settings (Tools | Options | Other | AutoArchive) and the
folder-specific AA settings (right click the folder, click Properties, then
AutoArchive tab) -- there should be a path to the default archive file. You
can also search your drive for all .PST files. If you're using Windows 2000
or XP, make sure you enable searching in hidden and system folders.

If you need to look inside a saved .PST file, read here for best practices:

Thanks, it says they are in an archive.pst file in my application
data/microsoft/outlook folder but there is no such file so I really don't
know what happened to some of those items. And also auto archive is turned
off in both places. Thanks!

-Dan

The only other possibility I can think of is that you have some kind of
filter set on your folder view so that older items are hidden. If not, then
I don't know where they might have gone, either.
