How long will it remain beta?

I'm sure it has been asked a million times, but the answer seems hidden to me.

I'm just curious why this product has been beta for so long, and when we can
expect a final release. Will there be a formal launch? Will the product be a
free download, or sold in stores?

Final release will probably coincide with the Vista release late in '06.
Bill G. has promised it will always be free.

I don't disagree with Frank Saunder's answers, but I wouldn't have made the
same ones. <g>

This has been an unusual beta. There are a number of factors going into the
timing, almost none of which are the difficulty of developing the new code.
The underlying code for this product will also connect to at least three
other Microsoft products--Vista, Windows OneCare Live, and Microsoft Client
Protection. Additionally, the work of the Antispyware Coalition has needed
to progress to provide some of the underpinnings for a clear basis on which
the product can act.

We should at least get an update - with the new UI we can see in Vista 5270,
soon. I mean, it makes it look like the MSAS team are doing nothing (which I
know is absurd, because as we can see by v1.1.908.0 in Vista 5270, they've
been working like beavers!).

Come on, if its going to take so long before RTM, at least release a Beta
Reresh/RC0/Beta2 for XP with the new UI. You know... rekindle interest a bit
:)
