How long to Upgrade from XP sp2?

I started the upgrade of a fairly clean Windows XP sp2 PC to Vista RC1 about
5 hours ago. Everything seemed to be going smoothly and quickly. But for
the lat 4 hours It's been on completing upgrade. The progress bar is at
about 80%. The drive is still showing activity, and if I click the red "X",
it tells me that it cannot be cancelled or your system might be unuseable.

But how long it this going to take before I need to just wipe the drive and
do a clean install?

I think maybe there were burning issues. Something simliar happened to me
with Beta 2, but re-burning at a higher speed fixed things up. Yup, didn't
work when burning slow, but it worked when I burned fast.

On a system with a lot of installed software your time may be OK. It can
take three to four times longer to upgrade XP to Vista on a system with just
a little bit of software than to do a clean install. On a heavily used
system it can take a long time.

I had an almost clean install of XP SP2 with all post SP2 updates but little
software on a P4 2.53 GHz with 1GB ram. An upgrade took 76 minutes. Clean
install was 27.
