After it, do I have to do a clean installation?

You would have to format/install a fresh copy of the final as your beta key
would not work.

Well it may be upgradeable, but it depends on the final beta version - just
check back nearer the time.

However, Microsoft says it will end support for all beta versions the
day Vista RTM is released to System Builders (supposedly, sometime in
October).

Why anyone would want to continue to run a Beta OS is beyond me. It still
has Beta code, maybe not have any performance tweaks that RTM has.

So they can run it for free.

Yeah, probably by the same people who are running the non-legit version of
XP Pro and not caring that it has no support, security updates etc. It's
free after all so who cares how much malware they transmit.receive when
online!

It will most likely be upgradeable (MS has not made a final announcement as
to the RC to Final upgrade) as long as you upgrade before the June 1
timebomb. After that you will have to do a Custom Installation since you
would not be able to get into RC1 to start the upgrade.

Why aren't the performace tweaks in RC1? How are they sure they are going
to work?

I hope they will continue security updates until June 2007. My take is that
until the retail version hits my Best Buy/Fry's/CompUSA all updates should
continue and MS should be free to take any actions to encourage beta tester
to buy Vista once the retail version is released.

I doubt if there will be any updates to RC1 or any of the betas after RTM.
There is not much point that to that.

Performance tweaks don't stop at RC1. The Beta Team will continue to
fine-tune Vista up to RTM.
