windows vista premium mail but not idea what type of server (outgoing or
incoming) I have got and how to find out.
in fact I don't even know my username or password because I don't know
whether all of it was organized originally when I installed windows for the
first time in my shiny new laptop.

Who is my ISP and how can I contact them?

stupid, weird, nutty question from a totally computer-illiterate: sole

Your ISP is who provides your Internet service. Ask them the appropriate
information or check their website. The settings will be the same as for
OE.

Call the company that sold you the laptop and ask them who the ISP
is since, if what you say is true, the Internet connecting software
must have come preinstalled by them.

Also since they have provided you, apparently, with no documentation
whatsoever you should consider asking for a refund.

Mind you... It is weird that you have managed to connect at all
if Windows if the only software you have installed.

How would the PC vendor know who the ISP is? The OP is free to choose
any ISP that is available in his area. Windows comes standard with
"Internet connecting software" so say the vendor pre-installed it does
not make sense.

No PC vendor that I am aware of includes a Windows manual any more. That
is what the Help feature is for. To demand a refund because such
documentation did not exist is ludicrous.

The fact that the OP has connected to the Internet to be able to post
(unless it was done from some other PC at a different location) is not
necessarily odd. But if he did connect from the new laptop and still
does not know who his ISP is...then *that* is odd.

I haven't a clue but if the OP didn't sort out an ISP who else?

I know but it'll get him in a dialogue with the vendor.

That's what he seems to be saying.

Did you send this message from your new laptop?

"...but it will get him in a dialogue with the vendor..."?? This thread
is crazy...the OP needs to find someone knowledgeable to work on his
issue(s) locally (i.e. he needs some personal training classes). I'm
outa here.
