I need to know how to wipe xp out and reload. I upgraded
from 98 and to format i just would restart in ms dos
mode, then type cd.., then format C:
But with XP, I dont know where to begin.
can anyone help?

Hi,

Boot the WinXP CD, start a new installation. You can elect to format as part
of the new installation.

The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools necessary to
partition and format your drive. Follow this procedure and allow Windows XP
to partition and format your drive:

1. Open your BIOS and set your CD Drive as the first bootable device.
2. Insert your Windows XP CD in the CD Drive and reboot your omputer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to delete the existing
Windows partitions, then create a new partition, then format the primary
partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install Windows XP.

5. Clean Install Windows XP

6. After installing Windows XP, be sure and visit the support website of
the manufacturer of the computer to download and install any available
Windows XP compatible drivers, such as video adapter and audio drivers.

Boot from the Windows XP CD and follow the prompts.

Your choice of the word "downgrade" in the subject header seems to
contradict your "reload" comment in the body of your posting. Are you
trying to revert to Windows 98, or keep XP? It makes a difference in
how I would advise you to proceed.

Greetings --

If you performed an upgrade from Win98/Me, elected to backup the
old system files, and didn't convert the partition to NTFS, then all
you need do is boot into Safe Mode and Start > Control Panel >
Add/Remove Programs. All of these conditions _must_ be met for the
uninstall option to be available.
