How fast should prices drop when the X800 is released?

This is a question for all the video card fanatics, the ones that
change video cards *really* often:

I've decided to get either an ATI 9800XT or the Nvidia 5950 Ultra.
These are the current top-end models, and go for about $500 in the
stores, or about $375 online.

I know that ATI is about to release the X800 in June or July, and
Nvidia is going to release the 6800 at about the same time.

What I'm curious about is how quickly I can expect the prices for the
9800/5950 to drop once they're no longer the flagship models, and
where you think the prices for the 9800 and 5950 will end up once the
dust settles and the X800/6800 have been available for a few months.

From past history, do you think the 5950/9800 will end up in the
$250-$350 range, and if so, how long should I wait for this to happen?

I don't mind paying the money, but I'd feel silly buying the 9800 or
5950 when they hit $400, only to have them be $200 (or less) a month
later.

Thanks for any advice. My current card is a GeForce 3, so I obviously
don't update often enough to have a feel for the pricing trends.

I did just finish Far Cry on the GeForce 3, though! Then I started
looking at the screenshots from magazines...

"What? The helicopters have camo paint on them?? and so do the
inflatable boats?"

"Birds? What birds?" I gotta get a new video card...

the real question IS - How fast should prices drop for *all* the 32 bit ATI
video cards when ATI releases their 64 bit PCI2 video card in July ?

The 9800 Pros have already come waaaay down in price. go for one of those now. Playing 'what will
be good in a months time' is always a bad shot - next month there will be something else on the
horizon :)

Oh, and expect ATI to come down further, high/mid end ATI are cheaper to manufacture than high/mid
end NVidia cards so there is further to go without affecting the bottom line.

UK trade prices of the Nvidia 5900's have almost halved in the last couple
of weeks. Watch for the retail prices to go into free fall very soon.

5900/s might have halved and halve again, still would buy a 9800 pro,
even if the 5900s were free ;)
 
Yep, I had originally posted my question in a different group, but
didn't get much in the way of responses, since it was more of a
general computer group than a video-specific group. When I
cut-and-pasted it to this group, I should have taken out the Nvidia
references.

Anyway, I've decided that:
a) I don't need to get an X800
b) I'm sure as hell not going to pay today's price for a 9800 XT.

Since the new-generation cards always seem to be about $500, and the
cards from the previous generation seem to steady out at about $250 or
so, I'm going to wait for the 9800XT to drop into the $250-$275 range
and buy one then.

My 9000 is kicking ass in Far Cry. I'm going to wait
for the 9800 to drop to less than $150. Something
all of you might look at ... the new Dells are tossing in
a 9800XT with their new systems.
