How Does This Work?

In reviewing the Task Manager in Vista is seems you can schedule a task to
"Wake" the computer. If the computer is off, how can an operating system
task get control to wake the computer?
 
computer has to be in standby mode of course

and exactly that is the defaults when you click the "off" button in
startmenu unless you happen to change the behaviour.
 
Ah ha... should have thought of that. The explinations in Help don't make
that clear,
