How does the "display as" function work on the contact form gener.

As I enter information into the general tab of the contact form and get to
the field titled "Display as", the system defaults to showing the person's
full name followed by the person's e-mail address. I usually delete the
e-mail address leaving only the name. My objective is that when I select a
contact for sending a message to that contact, I only want the name to show
in the To field of the message. However, sometimes both the name and e-mail
address still show up in the To field; while other times only the name shows
up. What do I need to do to just get the name.

Each version of Outlook configures the Display Name differently. You didn't
even post your Outlook version.

I am using Outlook 2003.

Then you can easily change the Display As field to whatever you want. It is
displayed in the Contact Record in the General Tab.

I have done this but don't always get the result that I want. For example,
one of my contacts is Steve Bartlett who has an e-mail address of
(e-mail address removed). The Display as field just shows "Steve Bartlett."
However, when I want to send a message to everyone in a category that he is
part of and select that category, the To field in the message shows as: Steve
Bartlett <[email protected]>. However, the To field of the message shows
just the name for some of the other people who are part of this category even
though the Display as field was handled the same way. Can you provide
guidance on what I can do to get consistency in how the names show? Thanks.

Perhaps. Can you explain more fully how you are entering the address that
appears to display incorrectly and where it seems to display incorrectly?
Are you sure you aren't pulling the address from the autocompletion cache
instead of the Contact Record?
I'm also a little unsure as to why is so important.
