How does system restore decide when to delete resore points

I regularly check the available system restore "restore points"

I notice that they build up in number...

.... and then, at some point, all points vanish.

I don't associate the "vanishing" with anything that I do, like
applying a patch or update.

It's as if, when system restore reaches the maximum allowable disk
space, it deletes all restore points, instead of the oldest one.

What is System Restore's "mentality" with regard to automatic deletion
of restore points?

Thanks for your insight!

Richard;
System Restore saves Restore Points depending on the space you
allocate.
If they all suddenly disappear, something else is causing the problem.

Many things can cause loss of Restore Points, when they are gone, they
are gone and can not be recovered or used.
Some of the things are:
Available space on hard drive
Computer usage
Space you dedicate to System Restore

If you use Real Player, try doing without it for a few days:

And others.

Thanks for the info and references... after reading them, maybe the
culprit is Real Player... although I can't make restore points
disappear by intentionally using it so far... maybe Real Player only
does it damage "sometimes"...
