If there are 2 Operating Systems on the PC, WIndows XP Professional and
WIndows XP Home Edition, how does one remove one operating system (say,
WIndows XP Home Edition) ?

If each OS is on its own partition or HD one merely starts the system with
the OS one wishes to keep and formats the other
OS out of existence
You would then open the Boot.ini file with notepad and remove the line that
refers to the deleted OS

thanks for the quick response. following up on that, I have 2 issues:

1. The second O/s is on the same disk (C:), but probably as a second folder
(WINDOWSH). will deletion of this folder remove the second O/s ?

2. I am not able to find the Boot.ini file. where will this be located and
will it be under the same name that has been mentioned ?

Remove the folder that you installed XP home into.....this will delete XP
Home but not the XP user files nor XP MyDocuments since they
are in a different location...if you installed Pro after XP chances are Pro
overwrote XP Home User files and MyDocuments.
The "Boot.ini " is in the root of the C drive and you need to set folder
option to show all files. It is also available under msconfig command which
is run from the START/run
After deleting the folder that holds the OS you no longer want run msconfig
...click the Boot.ini tab and click "check all boot paths"
