First I get the message "if I want to update" from so and so file when I
open it. The source file was a draft file I pasted from. I must have pasted
a link, but I don't know how to find it or how to delete it. HELP.

Good catch Jim. Searching for "!" in formulas will certainly allow you to
locate links.
In addition there is a wonderful utility called FindLink which facilitates
this process:

look for FindLink.zip by Bill Manville.

To delete the link you can go to View , a the bottom is
links , click here and it will show you were the links
come from , from here you can delte if you want but you
might want it to refernce to another cell inside you
sheet , if so you can change the source file to the one
you are using.

Once you knwo were the link is from you could always try
a Find on the page with the name if thi link , this works
sometimes but i have struggled with it to find every link.

good luck
