How does one change number zero to the zero with diagonal line.

I want to be able to type the numbe zero, but with the line through the
character as often used in computer generated text.

The preferred way is to use a font that has the line through the zero
character. One such font is Consolas, which comes with Office 2007 (or, if
you have an earlier version of Office, download the Compatibility Pack which
includes the new fonts). You may find other fonts with this character on the
Web.

A less preferable way is to use a field to combine the zero character and
the slash character. See http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/Overbar.htm, in
the section "Arithmetic mean, shorthand characters". This form won't be
recognized as a zero if you use calculation fields.

Note: If you want your slashed zero to appear like that to others, use
Suzanne's instructions. If you use a "fancy" font and forward that document
to someone who doesn't have that font, they probably will see just a plain
zero.
 
But if you have to do math with it, you'll need a true font character.
