How does Celeron 2.4Ghz differ from P4 2.4Ghz?

Okay, it's slower for sure. But how slow? Are Celerons at
least faster than P3s? Could Celeron 2.4Ghz be faster than
P4 1.6Ghz?

Someone asked this only yesterday and I believe that someone posted that the
Celerons were infinitely more overclockable. This bloke had managed to clock
one at 3.4GHz whilst the P4 only managed 2.9. Also according to this bloke
(can't remember who it was - Wheat Muncher perhaps?) there wasn't a whole
lot of difference when it came to speed..OK, the P4 has more cache, but
that's about it.

Yeah, some bloke.
Depending on the benchmarking software the Celeron is between 2 and 24%
slower. My own testing with real world apps makes it more or less the
same. As the saying goes, lies, benchmarks and statistics.

One thing is absolutely clear though, in UK you can buy 2 Celerons for
the price of one P4, both 2400MHz.

As they say, the choice is yours, its your money. For me, I'm tempted to
change my P4-2.4 for a Celeron 2400 o/c'd to 3.4GHz just to see how well
it works long term.

Sorry I couldn't remember and I couldn't find the original message! You are,
of course, not just some bloke, but a valued regular without whose expertise
this group would be a good deal poorer...Is that enought grovelling? Can I
go now? ;o)
