How does an upgrade affect my activation?

I just bought a new computer (bare bones) and will be just
moving the hard drive with XP Pro from my old AMD 750 to
the new AMD 2.1, with new MB, etc. My understanding is
that when I logon to the internet and run Windows Update,
XP recognizes that it's not the same computer and will
inactivate my license. How do I upgrade my computer and
still keep a valid license activated?

Joy;
You will probably need to perform a Repair Installation to properly
detect the new hardware:

Activation will not be a problem.
Worst case is a 5 minute call to Microsoft.

The above may not apply if Windows XP is OEM.
