I am (literally) getting my hands dirty trying to figure this out.
How does my HP722C print colors? What are the primary colors in the
cartridge? (Are they CMY?) Does the HP722C use black ink when
printing colors?

To reply directly to me, replace all 'z' with 'a' in email address.

The printer uses the HP #23 cartridge, which is CMY. [But... the printer
driver expects RGB information. and will do the necessary conversion to
CMY. ] If you are using a program such as Photoshop do not specify CMY as
this will result in greatly oversaturated images.] When printing on plain
paper the printer will use the CMY and Black appropriately to print images.
When printing on photo paper the black cartridge is not used as it is a
pigmented ink and not compatible with the coated photo media.
