I just tried that and it didn't install the new signature, either.

So--what happened:

Were you offered the new definition/signature update?

Did it fail?

You are piggybacking on an existing thread which may be about a somewhat
different issue than you are posting about--so I need details about where
you are --what is working and what is not.

Double click your desktop icon for Defender or click your start button and
look for Microsoft Defender in the all program list and double click the icon
to open it's main window. Then click the drop down list arrow to the right of
the blue question mark on the tool bar. Then click on "about windows
defender" and then click the update button down the lower right. I never
update automatically and always turn those features off in every program.
Manual updating is the only true and safe method to be sure that your
computer is only updating what you want, when you want. TTFN.
