How do you uninstall a program that does nor show up in "add/remove programs"?

I recently had to do a system restore on my computer and now I am having problems with my internet secutity program including virus proction. I cannot get the program to open at all. It is in my program files in windows explorer but it does not show up in my Add/Remove programs so that I can uninstall it and then reinstall it. I have also tried to reinstall it over the same program but it will not take. How can I uninstall it without causing problems with my other programs so that I can get it reinstalled again? I have also tried doing what was sent to me by the Symantec Co. but I still cannot get it to work or uninstall their way. PLEASE HELP

Usually Norton has an uninstall option that can be accessed by going START, PROGRAMS, NORTON (SYSTEMWORKS, ANTIVIRUS, et al). If it has that unitsall option, try it. If not, try reinstalling the program in SAFE MODE, rebooting normally and uninstalling it that way.
