How do you turn off the CD-ROM search in :
Windows Media Player
Version: 9.00.00.3008

OS: Windows 98SE

I am using a older NEC 4X-4 Jukebox drives in a home media systems...

I found a fix for this search for older versions of media player....

But when I install the "MOVIELINK" software to be able to play movies from
this movie site.. it forced me to upgrade the version of media player that I
was using and the "FIX" in the windows INI and SYS files do not work with
this version of media player

What CD-ROM search are you referring to? I don't understand what you're
referring to. :)

Every time I start up Windows media player the program causes my cd-rom
drives to spin up...

The program is searching to 'see' if there is a music or video media cd in
the drive.

Being that these are older CD drives... which work great for music play
back... just not too great for program loading... windows media play locks
up.. I guess because a CD drive is found but not answering data queries fast
enough for the program... and if there is not cd in the drive the drive door
pop op....

I'm unaware of any "off" switch here.
I'd think that WMP9 would be optimized performance-wise not to spin up the
drive unless it's actually needed, but maybe I have a different experience
than you.

So, sorry: I'm unaware of any specific angles here that would help. :\
