How do you stop programs from loading and showing up in
the system tray during the boot up phase in Windows 2000
Professional?

Thank you

Depends on the program, but most of them are started in the"startup" folder
of the particular user, or "all users" startup folder. Use Windows Explorer
and go to each user or simply use a start/search for "statrup", look at the
path and nuke(delete) the program icon from the folder. (but write down what
you do, if you can't remember later.)
You can get the rest in the registry, if that doesn't do the whole trick.

Another option: I underdstand you can simply copy msconfig.exe from a Win XP
machine and run it under Win 2K. I haven't tried it yet, but will do.
