How do you reload a corrupt browser

I have MS Internet Explorer 6.0 with SP2 on my PC, but when MS update or any
other program looks at this, it thinks I have a Mac or just hangs up. I
think the browser is corrupt. How do I uninstall and reinstall it OR fix the
portion of the software that thinks it is a Mac?

What message are you seeing that makes reference your PC being seen as a
Mac? I haven't heard of this before. Do you have a third party browser
installed?

Thanks.

Thanks for the link. I followed the instructions until it asked me to edit
the "appropriate" sub key. I have several in my registry and I am not sure
which one to edit. Thanks for your help!

Hi, Marty.

Yes, those long GUIDs (Globally Unique IDenifiers) can be intimidating! But
if you look closely at them, you can see how to isolate the one you need.

When that KB article says to "Locate the appropriate registry subkey", it
means to choose from the two options in that paragraph 3. If you want to
reinstall just the IE BROWSER, then select the first one; if you want to
reinstall Outlook Express, choose the second one.

When you select the subkey
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed
Components\{44BBA840-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C,

you should see "Microsoft Outlook Express 6" on the right side of the
RegEdit screen, on the (Default) line.

As the article says, if you are not comfortable with using the Registry
Editor, you probably should get some knowledgeable help with it. Like other
powerful tools, it can do as much harm as good if used incorrectly.
