click on the x in the upper right corner to close it?
if you are, and it doesn't disappear from the task list within a minute or
two, you have something running that keeps it open. known culprits includes
fax software, activesync (especially if you don't remove it from the cradle
before closing outlook) and any other application that accesses outlook
data.
